Saturday morning, from 9, the farewell to William Calabrese at the Pilar Memorial Cemetery. His relatives, closest friends, former work colleagues and several of his students have come here to say their last goodbyes to the famous chef, who passed away on Friday at the age of 61.
During the morning there was a kind of vigil and then the burial, where there was a detail that moved the cook’s family. It is that many of those who were students of his showed up with their chef jackets and several of them brought the drawer to honor the memory of their teacher and friend.
Maia Chacra, collaborator at what a morning (El Nueve), the television cycle where Calabrese worked until his death, told TN what he experienced in the intimate farewell: “All the teachers of the institute where he taught lived dressed in jackets, like he did when he fired Gato Dumas”.
In this sense, the journalist had the task of explaining that it was Cala himself (as his colleagues affectionately called him) who started this tradition, to honor the work of cooks.
“It’s very sad, we were dancing two days ago,” said Chacra, still not believing in the loss of his friend. Instead, Daniel Gómez Rinaldi, also a former partner of the chef, added: “He was a very good boy, generous, attentive. On TV he got involved and gave you the job, that’s why I always say that he was affectionate and generous ”.
“He lived for his wife Silvia and his two children, he always spoke of them with great pride. We are sorry that he was unable to carry out the trip he had planned with his daughter, ”the entertainment journalist added with pain.
Ximena Sáenz and the rest of her former colleagues from Argentinian cooksthe Public TV cycle, in which Calabrese acquired popular notoriety and which he conducted from 2010 to 2020.
For their part, the driver’s family was very moved by the presence of so many loved ones. In this sense Melisa and Miguel (with the red cap in the photos), children of Calabrese, received all the guests and thanked them for their affection, support and presence on such a painful day.

As confirmed by his family, Guillermo Calabrese suffered cardiac arrest at dawn on Friday and was transferred to Fernández hospital by SAME, but died before arrival.
He was currently leading the Qué mañana cycle, on the screen of Channel 9, where he had arrived in early 2022 to replace Ariel Rodríguez. He himself had defined the program as a “clear gastronomic message, neither pompous nor ceremonious”, in a face-to-face meeting that he had given to Clarín before the premiere of the cycle.
However, the cycle that marked a before and after in Cala’s career was his time on Cocineros Argentinos, the program in which he worked for a decade between 2010 and 2020. From the socials of the culinary success of Public TV, paid homage to the cook.
“We say goodbye to a great friend who has been part of our family for a long time, Guillermo Calabrese. Cala, we will remember you with much love and joy for all the moments we have lived, for the recipes we have cooked together and the time we have shared. Always in our hearts,” they wrote.
From the public TV Twitter account they also referred to the death of one of Gato Dumas’ favorite students: “Guillermo Calabrese died this morning at the Fernández hospital after failing to overcome a heart attack. He had walked away from the cooking cycle in 2020 of Cocineros Argentinos Public Television, where he has been for years, to have his own program on another channel”.
