Biopic that will tell the trajectory of Elvis Presley, arrives in national cinemas on July 14
It’s time for Warner Bros to expose its news at Cinemacon 2022, an event responsible for bringing exclusive news about the year’s releases. On stage were the director and protagonist of “Elvis”, a biopic of the king of rock, Baz Luhrmann and Austin Butler (“The Carrie Diaries”) telling more about the behind-the-scenes of the production, creation process and more.
Starting with Luhrmannthe filmmaker answered some questions about the work itself, and revealed his affection for feature films such as Elvis Presley. “I love biopics, this isn’t really a biopic”, declared the director. “It’s really about America in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. At the center of the culture, for good, bad and ugly, was Elvis Presley.”continued.
Regarding his perspective for the film, he chose something more aimed at a young audience, so the narration of the story from the Colonel’s perspective Tom Parkercharacter lived by Tom Hanks (“Forrest Gump”). Later, Butler joined the director in the conversation, and also talked about the casting process for such an important role and the process until the film was finished. “The main thing I set out to find was his humanity. He’s one of those individuals who’s been elevated to such an iconic status that it’s almost superhuman.”answered.
Finally, Luhrmann alluded to “Elvis” as a superhero movie, after praising the work of Matt Reeves in “Batman”, another Warner film whose sequel was also confirmed at the event. “Elvis is the original superhero. He comes from the dirt and in some blinding moments, soars so high, finds his kryptonite and falls”declared.
And to close with that taste of “I want more”, the THR reported that an unreleased snippet of “Elvis” was shown after the end of the conversation. According to the website, the preview narrated by Hanks it says: “In that moment, Elvis the man was sacrificed and Elvis the God was born”during a performance of “Trouble” by Presleyafter he was removed from the stage in a confrontation with his audience and the police.
“Elvis” will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival, which should take place between the 17th and 28th of May in France, while in Brazil, it will hit theaters on the 14th of July.
