Sources say Lohan, who became one of Hollywood’s biggest stars after starring in the 2004 film of the same title, he earned about $500,000 for half a day’s work in the musical starring a new Plastics clique led by Angourie Rice and Reneé Rapp. Paramount declined to comment and a representative for Lohan declined a request for comment from Variety.

Lohan’s surprise entry in the new film, written by Tina Fey, drew thunderous applause at its New York premiere. The musical film, directed by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Pérez Jr., has already found its success at the box office, taking first place over the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend with a gross of $33.2 million annually, at a national level.

Paramount originally planned to release the $36 million film via streaming only on Paramount+, but changed course after test screenings indicated there was still appetite to see it on the big screen. Exit polls show that the film appeals to both Generation Z and the over-35 demographic, the latter buoyed by Lohan’s presence, which Paramount managed to keep under wraps until the film’s debut.

The new one Bad Girls revolves around the high school dramas of Cady Heron (Rice) as she navigates her way through the mob ruled by Regina George (Rapp replaces Rachel McAdams, who didn’t return). Avantika Vandanapu and Bebe Wood round out the film’s main quartet, while Fey and Tim Meadows reprise their roles as a jaded math teacher and a hapless principal, respectively.

Lohan took a more than decade-long hiatus from studio films before returning with the Netflix rom-com Falling for Christmas in 2022. We will see her soon Irish longingalso from Netflix, which will premiere on March 15.
