As confirmed by the specialized website Variety, Waters’ departure will not be the only profound change that the German record label will bring after the arrival of Thomas Coesfeld, the company’s new CEO. Naturally, Waters’ separation is the one that makes the most noise.
The deal between BMG and Waters was signed in 2016 and originally included the release of a newly recorded version of Pink Floyd’s acclaimed 1973 album, Dark Side of the Moon.
But with the arrival of Coesfeld, who took over on July 1, 2023, the project fell apart and the agreement with Waters began to falter due to his radical position on sensitive and controversial issues.
