The actress defended that the character was “30 years old doing 30-year-old things”
The actress Hilary Duff spoke in an interview with Women’s Health magazine about the failure of revival of “Lizzie McGuire” on Disney+.
Duff confessed that he has received several offers over the years to revive the character from the Disney Channel comedy that chronicled the high school student’s formative years.
However, when she finally agreed to star in the Disney+ version that would reunite her with the original’s creator, Terri Minskyand the co-stars Lalaine, Adam Lambberg, Jake Thomas, Hallie Todd and Robert Carradinewas not quite what she wanted.
“Is it over there [Lizzie] had to be 30 years old doing 30 years old stuff“, he said Duff to the publication, noting that she pushed for a more mature character to appear on the new show.
“She didn’t have to do drugs and have one-night stands all the time, but she had to be authentic. I think they [a Disney] got scared.“, said the actress.
“Lizzie McGuire” aired from 2001 to 2004 on Disney Channel and ran for two seasons, totaling 65 episodes. In addition to the series, the character was also taken to the movies, in 2003, in “Lizzie McGuire: A Popstar Dream”. Only the film is available on Disney+ Brazil.
