Since “Top Gun: Maverick” was announced, many fans of the feature with Tom Cruise were left wondering if other stars from the original would return for the sequel. we are talking about Kelly McGillis and Meg Ryanwhich gave life to Charlie and Carol Bradshaw, respectively. However, among the various announcements about the sequel, the names of the actresses were not mentioned, and the director Joseph Kosinski explained why.

Questioned by insider (via ScreenRant) about the absence of McGillis and Ryan, Kosinski revealed that both were not even thought of during the development of Part 2 of “Top Gun”. “These weren’t stories that we were releasing… I didn’t want all the stories to always be looking back. It was important to introduce some new characters.”pointed out the filmmaker.

In “Top Gun”, McGillis interpreted Charlotte “Charlie” Blackwoodthe aviation instructor and love interest of the character of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell (cruise). Asked in 2019 about the possibility of playing the character again, she replied: “I’m old and fat, and I look age-appropriate”. But, to cheer the fans and be part of the original cast, Val Kilmer returns for “Top Gun 2” reprising Ice Man. “Top Gun: Maverick” hits theaters on May 26 and will be the big honoree at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, which takes place between May 17 and 28.
