Netflix’s New 007 Enters the Catalog on July 22
Chris Evansa star known for living the captain America at Marvel, he served for years as the hero of the story. So when it was announced in “The Hidden Agent”, Netflix’s new spy movie, many thought it would be the same. However, he was cast to play the villain of the plot, and the directors Joe and Anthony Russo explained why.
The mutual work between the trio is no longer the first, since the brothers Russian were next to Evans during four of the nine films in which he appeared as Steve Rogers, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But as the bad guy, it’s the first. And during an interview with Den of Geekthe filmmakers told why they didn’t hesitate to cast a perverse sociopath, and that it came from a conversation with the actor himself.
“We didn’t have to sell Chris on paper; Chris sold us, in a way. We were talking to him as we were wrapping up Avengers: Infinity War and then Avengers: Endgame, about what was next for him or where he wanted to go in his career, and he said, ‘You know what? I’m comfortable enough in my life and the work I’ve done, and I’m just interested in taking risks going forward, and I just want to play challenging characters'”recalled the pair. “So it seemed obvious to us that the right move here would be to offer Chris the sociopath and not the hero.”completed Joe.
In the end, the role of the good guy was destined for another actor: Ryan Gosling (“La La Land: Singing Seasons”). “We knew we needed someone who knew how to disappear on some level. Gosling has such an interesting technique for him (Court Gentry/Gray Man) in which he has a minimalist style where he conveys a lot of emotion, thought and complexity, with a lot of subtlety.”scored Anthony.
Joe completed saying that gosling he was perfect for the role of the protagonist, with his personal and professional characteristics, in addition to previous experiences. “I would say this role uses everything that Ryan is amazing about. His really wonderful, quirky sense of humor; how intense he is on screen and can communicate a lot while doing very little. Remember, Ryan was a dancer when he was younger. Playing an action hero is unlike any other form of acting, because all that stunt work requires incredible body control and extreme discipline.”finished.
The film still has a strong cast made up of Ana de Armas (“007 – No Time to Die”), Regé-Jean Page (“Bridgerton”) and the Brazilian Wagner Moura (“Marighella”). Billy Bob Thorton (“Fargo”) and alfre woodard (“Luke Cage”), Jessica Henwick (“Deep Threat”) and Julia Butters (“Once Upon A Time In…Hollywood”).
“Hidden Agent” is set to hit Netflix on July 22.
