The chief medical health officer of the province, Dr. Brent Roussin has confirmed that all Manitoban people aged 50 and over are now eligible for a fourth dose of the vaccine.
He reminded that First Nations members aged 30 and over, and adults living with immune system deficiencies remain eligible as well.
Brent Roussin said vaccine efforts for the fourth dose are focused on those most at risk of having a severe form of the virus.
It is unlikely that we will continue to expand eligibility for the fourth dose of vaccines before the fall vaccination campaign.
Dr. announced. Brent Roussin that the interval between booster doses was reduced from 6 months to 4 months.
Manitoba is also expanding the availability of a drug that treats the symptoms of COVID-19, paxlovid. Today more than 175 pharmacists distribute this antiviral. This drug, which is effective, only if taken within the first five days of illness.
He noted that based on provincial modeling and City of Winnipeg wastewater monitoring, the COVID-19 situation remains stable.
Supported by a graph, he pointed that outmost of the recorded cases were BA 2 cases. […] After a slight increase in hospital admissions, the curve has dropped.
According to data collected by the province between March 28 and May 9, people who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19 are 13 times more likely to be hospitalized. They were also 22 times more likely to land in the emergency room and 32 times more likely to die from the disease than people who received a booster dose.
