“Tico e Teco: Defenders of the Law” premiered last Friday (20) on Disney+ and since then has been causing controversy among netizens for the way it presented the character Peter Pan as a villain.

Some people have pointed out that the film parallels the tragic story of Bobby Driscollactor who was the voice of Peter in the 1953 animation.

Driscoll was a famous child actor who started working at the age of 6. At one point in his career, he even had an exclusive contract with Disney, serving not only as a voice but also as a reference for Peter to be animated.

At age 16, Driscoll was fired from Disney. The studio claimed that her severe acne required a lot of makeup. From the age of 17, he suffered from depression and began to abuse drugs, including heroin. He was arrested for drug possession and tried to start his acting career again, but never succeeded.

He died at age 31, and was buried as a pauper. He died alone in an abandoned building in New York. the parents of Bobby Driscoll they only learned of their son’s death a year after his death.

So when the film shows a Peter Pan who became a villain because he grew up and lost his job with the studio, many netizens started to make this connection.

ABOUT “TICO AND TECO: DEFENDERS OF THE LAW”

In the story, Teco (Andy Samberg) lives off his past success to maintain his fame in the present, while Tico (John Mulaney) is an insurance broker. However, one phone call can change everything and bring back one of the most beloved detective duos in the world.

THE reboot from the classic 90’s animated series has John Mulaney and Andy Samberg to star in the title roles with Seth Rogen making a special appearance. Akiva Schaffer is the director. Dan Gregor and Doug Mand of “How I Met Your Mother” wrote the screenplay.
