“Elvis” has been a real success, and after receiving praise from almost the entire family Presleythe biopic starring Austin Butler and directed by Baz Luhrmann made his debut at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, later this week, and guaranteed 12 minutes of applause for the actor’s work and performance.

According to the Varietythe crowd also spontaneously erupted in appreciation when Butler recreated some of the King of Rock’s biggest hits on film, including “Jailhouse Rock”, “Blue Suede Shoes” and “Suspicious Minds”.

Thus, so far, “Elvis” becomes the most acclaimed film in this edition of the Festival. The cinebiography even surpassed Tom Cruise with the long-awaited “Top Gun: Maverick”, a sequel to the 1980s classic. After the screening, the star got five minutes of standing ovation from the audience. During his appearance at Cannes, cruise was awarded the Palme d’Or, which honors the best film shown at the festival.

The film’s story delves into the complex dynamics between Presley and his manager Colonel Tom Parker (Tom Hanks) over 20 years, since the rise of Elvis from fame to unprecedented stardom.

In addition to Butler and Hanksthe film’s cast also includes David Wenham (“Top of the Lake”), Richard Roxburgh (“Moulin Rouge – Love in Red”), Dacre Montgomery (“Stranger Things”), Kelvin Harrison Jr. (“At nightfall”), Luke Bracey (“Until the Last Man”), Olivia DeJonge (“The Society”) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (“Attack of the Dogs”).

“Elvis” hits Brazilian theaters on July 14.
