The 11th Montreal comic book festival kicked off Friday with the awarding of the Bédélys awards, which for 23 years have awarded the best in comics from here and elsewhere. At least 27 works run in five distinct categories.
This is Football-Fantasyby Zviane, who won the Bédélys Québec prize, celebrating a comic strip made by an artist founded in Québec and published by a publishing house in the province.
The story, which reached Éditions Pow Pow, follows the story of Frédérique and Anabelle as they flee from the laboratory of a mad scientist. Escaped from a rushing robot, the girls find themselves in a small town north of Gaspésie where people speak an unintelligible language.
Zviane, who is also a music composer, created Football-Fantasy in seven years. He has published more than a dozen comics, including Yoyolalaladuring his career.
The Bédélys awards also rewarded two self-published comic strips.
kill the paintera the curious revisited the west signed Étienne Poisson and Olivier Robin, won the French -speaking category, whileARC Twenty-Nine #4.1, 4.2, and 4.3a book by Marc Michaud that tells the story of a young man who inherited a spaceship, was crowned in the English category.
Winners in each category received a $ 1,000 scholarship.

The Prix Bédélys team is also interested in works published outside the borders of Quebec.
So, in the category of best French-language comic strip published abroad, it is Listen, good Márcia, by Marcello Quintanilha, a Brazilian author, who won the day. It tells the story of a nurse working in a hospital in a Brazilian favela, who was arrested for reselling stolen products.
A final Bédélys prize was awarded to Chicago artist Kat Leyh for Snapdragon, which was considered by the jury as the best French-language comic strip for 7 to 14 year olds. Interesting fact: it consists of young readers of this age category.
The Montreal Comic Strip Festival takes place from May 27 to 29 on Saint-Denis Street. Kiosks were installed within 1.5 kilometers to create a walk on the theme of comics with punctuation of activities, exhibitions and meetings.
