New character in the series has become a fan favorite
Eddie Munson made his first appearance in the fourth season of “Stranger Things” and is already a fan-favorite character. In an interview with Netflix’s official website, Matt and Ross duffercreators of the series, revealed that they were inspired by Quentin Tarantino to create the charismatic leader of the Hellfire club.
According to the duo, the character’s arrival in the plot was key to addressing the satanic panic in the story. “We really wanted that character who is a metalhead, he likes Dungeons & Dragons, he’s a true geek at heart. But from an outsider’s point of view, they might say, ‘This is someone who’s scary.’ So that’s where the idea for Eddie came from.”explained Ross.
The character building only took shape after climbing Joe Quinn for the role, as if Eddie didn’t work properly because he was so important to the plot development, the entire season could fall apart.
“Once we cast Joe, it got better, but the sketch of that cafeteria scene where he’s standing over the table and calling everyone [no episódio 1] – simply no one could do that. None of the actors could do it, like, do it in a way that you like this guy, where you didn’t just want to punch him. Right? And Joe, I don’t know how he did it. He was the only one.” said Matt.
To create Eddie, they reflected on what Tarantino was like in high school: “He has that kind of charisma, the magnetism, the hyper energy. Like, Tarantino could easily be annoying maybe, but he comes from such a passionate place that you can’t help but love the guy.”
“That’s the kind of energy we were looking for, but so specific. So Joe brought his own thing to it. He’s the kind of guy whose every take is different – he was finding out as we went along. I’m so glad people are responding so well to Eddie because we and every other actor on set has fallen in love with Joe.” added Matt.
