After two years of pandemic, international artists will return to Francos de Montréal, such as French electro music collective Bon Entendeur, performing this Monday night at MTelus. Notably he will play his revisited version of the Quebec song The weather is beautifulby Isabelle Pierre, with whom she had great success in France.
Quebec is the place in the world where the collective has often played, with the exception of France.
There is a story that connects us to Quebecexplains Arnaud Bonet, who launched Bon Entendeur 10 years ago,
The weather is beautiful come out of oblivion in 2018
Written and composed by Stéphane Venne in 1971 for the film The boysby Gilles Carle, the song The weather is beautiful experienced an unexpected resurgence when Bon Entendeur took over it in 2018.
Today, this version has nearly 74 million streams on Spotify.
At the time, Nicolas Boisseleau, a member of the group who worked more behind the scenes, explained to Radio-Canada why he and his accomplices chose this song from Quebec’s musical heritage.
It was a fun and solar song, with a light and charming melody, like a big bubble of freshness, he defined. The fact that it’s about polyamory makes it a song sooner than its time.
retro electro
This Monday night, the Bon Entendeur concert will mix songs from their two albums – Back and forth (2019) at midnight (2021) – on tracks that the collective wants and wants to put into remixed compilations, called mixtapes in English, which was his specialty and which he introduced himself in his early days.
It will be a mixing of all these sounds to offer to our fans who know us through different channels to find their wayemphasizes Pierre Della Monica, who will be on stage with Arnaud Bonet, whom he calls his brother.
To her mixtapesBon Entendeur brings together music it has unearthed in its musical heritage and excerpts from interviews with personalities from a variety of backgrounds, such as France Gall, former President Jacques Chirac, Charles Aznavour, actress Camille Cottin or again rapper Mc Solaar, who lived his 1990s on mixtapeA period.
On these albums, Bon Entendeur wants to rework retro songs, especially French Time of loveby Francoise Hardy, ex sixty fanby Jane Birkin, or even Rua Madureiraby Nino Ferrer.
A new album in the works
Montreal is one of 50 tour stages launched by Bon Entendeur in May and continues through October. After this marathon, he will stop giving concerts in France until 2024 to devote himself to the preparation of his third album, which is to be released within two years.
We will give ourselves time to focus there and give our best, instead of doing this album between two tours, Arnaud Bonet explains. That’s not the best way to work well and come up with great ideas.
To form this third opus, the group intends to take time to reflect, listen to new music and renew themselves.
So far, Bon Entendeur doesn’t know which songs he will visit again, but, as he continues to give a second life to French songs, he can explore more English -language musical production, as he did in disco success i love to lovesung by Tina Charles in 1976.
