The museum Ripley’s Believe It or Not! denied that Kim Kardashian damaged the iconic dress Marilyn Monroe wore to sing “Happy Birthday”.

Chad Michael Morrisetteowner of a mannequin supply company and once tampered with the glittery, tight dress Kardashian wore briefly in the met galaHe said he noticed recent damage to the glass-covered piece when he went to see it at the Los Angeles museum site.

Morrisette shared the photos she took of the 60-year-old dress on June 12 with a friend and memorabilia collector Monroe, who caused a stir by posting before and after photos on social media. “It makes me sad. I ran out of tearsMorrisette told The Associated Press.

Kardashian donned a replica of the dress after climbing the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 2. She wore the original ecru dress for a few minutes. Ripley bought the dress for $ 4.8 million in 2016 at auction..

Morrisette said he was hired to assemble items that belonged to Monroe, including the dress he wore in 1962 to sing for then-President John F. Kennedy on his 45th birthday.

“From the bottom of the steps to the Met, where Kim wore the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition in which it startedRipley’s vice president of publications and publishing, Amanda Joiner, said in a statement.

Joiner wore the dress on the day of the gala and during her move from Orlando, Florida, where it was last shown, in New York, according to Ripley’s.

The photos of the dress Morrisette took, along with the images before the Met gala, sparked criticism on social networks which pointed out that Kardashian should not have been allowed to wear such a delicate piece of such historical value. The dress is made from a flammable fabric that is no longer for sale.

Morrisette said he was shocked to see the state he was in.. He said he saw the fabric stretched on the back closure and the hooks to close it with new crystals missing. She also said the straps seemed to be tight. She noticed that that level of damage wasn’t present on the more than ten occasions she’s seen the dress over the years.

Why did they lend you the dress?

Shortly after the gala, Ripley’s said handling the dress was careful and no alteration was allowed. Kardashian wore a coat that covered her back, leading to speculation that it wasn’t zipped..

According to a report from Ripley’s, writing about the condition of the dress in early 2017, “A lot of the seams are stretched and worn. Not surprising given how delicate the material is. There are ripples in the back from the hooks and eyelets.” the other damages found.

To dress, embellished with over 2,500 crystals, was custom made for Monroe. It was based on a sketch by designer Bob Mackie, who was working for couturier Jean Louis at the time. It was so snug that Monroe needed to sew it when she was already wearing it..

Asked about Kardashian’s reaction to the damage dispute, a rep for the star forwarded Ripley’s statement without commenting further.

Ripley said she allowed Kardashian to wear the suit to keep Monroe’s legacy alive.

“Our mission is to entertain and educate visitors and fans, and spark conversations as the Marilyn Monroe dress speech does just that,” the company said. “It doesn’t matter which side you are on, The historical importance of the dress has not been denied, indeed underlined. A whole new group of young people have now been introduced to the legacy of Marilyn Monroe. ” Source Leanne Italia / AP.
