This is the second time that the co-winner of the 2013 Palme d’Or will be directed by a Quebec filmmaker, after filming for Xavier Dolan in Just the end of the world.

In Dune: Part Twothe protagonist Paul Atréides (Timothée Chalamet), supported by his mother, Dame Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson), will help the rebellious people of Fremen to build an army in order to fight the Harkonnen House, which invaded their territory.

The character that Léa Seydoux will play is the wife of Count Hasimir Fenring, who is the governor of the planet Arrakis – nicknamed Dunes – and a close friend of Emperor Shaddam IV. The latter, the main antagonist of the film, will be played by Christopher Walken in Dune: Part Twowe learned in May.

Dame Margot’s allegiances are ambiguous. Even if she is formally allied with the opposing camp of the Fremen, she regularly sends to her colleague Lady Jessica messages warning her of the threats hanging over her son.

Released last October Dunes was one of the highest-grossing films of 2021, with worldwide grossing totaling just over half a billion Canadian dollars.

Earlier this year, the mega-production by the Quebec filmmaker won six statuettes (out of 10 nominations) at the Oscars, including those for best original music and best cinematography.
