when the star of The Umbrella AcademyElliot Page, came out as a trans man in 2020, it was immediately apparent that he was going to change the trajectory of the hit Netflix show. Season 3, a brand new Netflix premiere, is featured the first opportunity for the superhero show to face Page’s transition.
Page’s character Viktor Hargreeves also makes the transition into the new seasonbut making it without feeling forced or numb was one of the biggest challenges the creative team faced.
In an interview with The Hollywood reporterPage is the executive producer of The Umbrella AcademySteve Blackman, discussed their approach to Viktor’s transition and the meaning of the new story for them.

“I think one of the most special things about this is the way the topic and the situations are handled,” Page said. “I think everyone is individually special … Like in the scene where Luther and Diego are coming down the stairs and he feels this discomfort …”
“At the same time, at the same time, I am experiencing all of this for real, because I walked into this moment when I am a trans person and I perceived it that wayand I have a whole host of new experiences and sensations that I didn’t have before …
“Obviously all those feelings resonate in the scenes, which was really amazing. We don’t see it when we’re not in control of our stories most of the time. So it was really special,” Page said.
For his part, Steve Blackman also teased future plans to continue exploring the subject, but he was adamant that being trans was simply one of the many elements of Viktor’s character.
“I mean, I can only say that it will have an impact on Viktor’s story,” Blackman said. “We have ideas of what we would like to do if we were lucky enough to continue the story into Season 4 …

“What I thought was good is that the genre hasn’t become the focus of the show. With these lovely people in the cast we were able to create something that felt very balanced and real, authentic. We want to continue doing it in the future ”.
Page echoed that sentiment, but hopes to tell more recognizable trans stories on the show in the future, should she picks herself up for another season.
As Steve said, he added, “It’s not the main focus of the character,” Page said. “But of course there will be moments and themes that relate.”
Try to remember
Just a few weeks ago it was confirmed that next year Elliot Page will publish his memoirs, in which he will collect his experiences as a trans actor in Hollywood. Among his stories there will probably be one that has to do with Brett Ratner, the director who for the first time “exposed” his sexual orientation in front of all his colleagues.
Elliot Page last year as he showed his transformation on his networks.
A business meeting with the director of X-Men 3: The Final Battle and the cast was instrumental in Page’s life and work, which at the time (it was 2005) she was 18 and still called Ellen. It was 2017 – eleven years after the film’s premiere – when Page talked about his networks how badly he was working under the orders of the director.
The main accusation concerned the fact that at the aforementioned meeting the director, referring to Page and those present, said to another woman: “You should c … so he realizes he’s gay.”
“I was a young adult who hadn’t come out yet. I knew I was gay, but I didn’t know it, so to speak. I felt violated when it happened … This man started our months of filming a business event with this horrible, indisputable plea. He “exposed” me regardless of my well-being, an act we all recognize as homophobic, “Ellen said at the time.
