“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” hits theaters on May 5th and the plot of the second film in the Supreme Wizard promises to be connected with several stories from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even though the projects are related and have references to more than 20 projects from the studio, Marvel manages to build a narrative that even those who don’t know the MCU in depth, can understand well and have fun with their releases.

Many fans may already have all the studio’s movies and series up to date, but if you want to get to the theaters pulling out all the references and getting to know the characters that will appear on the big screen, check out a list of Marvel movies and series to watch before the release of “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”.

• “Doctor Strange”

Starting of course with the first film that presents the origin of Stephen Strange (benedict Cumberbatch) and shows how he became the Sorcerer Supreme after suffering a serious accident. The hero, who was a brilliant and renowned neurosurgeon, lost the movement of his hands and found a new purpose in magic. But power brings many responsibilities and also many enemies.

• “WandaVision”

Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) will play a major role in “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,” connecting the film directly with “WandaVision.” The first series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe sees the heroine accidentally creating a perfect reality to live with. Eyesight (Paul Bettany).

The series has 9 episodes, with an average of 30 minutes each, and is totally inspired by the most famous sitcoms on American TV. In the plot, Wanda acquires even more power and begins to study a new type of magic.

• “Spider-Man: No Homecoming”

Despite the importance of “WandaVision”, the breaking point of the plot must come from “Spider-Man: No Return Home”, showing the consequences of the spell performed by Doctor Strange so that everyone would forget that Peter parker (Tom Holland) is Spider-Man.

In the movie, the spell goes awry and ends up attracting the main villains of the multiverse who know his true identity to reality.

• “Loki”

Launched in 2021, the series of Loki shows what happened to the villain after he escaped with the Tesseract in “Avengers: Endgame”. He ends up captured by the AVT (Time Variance Authority), the organization responsible for controlling the multiverse and its timelines.

The episodes introduce the Variants, versions of the hero from different universes, and the trailer for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” has already confirmed that different versions of the Sorcerer Supreme will appear in the film.

• “What If…?”

Of all the productions mentioned above, “What If…?” perhaps it will be the one that will be most connected to “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”. The first animated series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe launched in August 2021 on Disney+ and reimagines key events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

In the episode dedicated to Doctor Strange, the accident that took the movement of Stephen Strange’s hands is reimagined and he loses the great love of his life, Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams). He tries to find a way to save her life using magic, but he can’t avoid the fatality.

Not accepting to lose his great love, Stephen works with a dangerous and dark type of magic, looking for books in places already forgotten by man. He alters his form, transforming into something far removed from the human, until he finally brings Christine back to life, but ends up paying too high a price by creating a seemingly evil variant of himself.

This evil Variant has already appeared in the trailers for “Doctor Strange 2”, as has the zombie version of the hero, who also appeared in “What If…?”. The film will also feature a new version of the character, the Doctor Strange Defenderwho has a very different look from the Stephen we know.
