American rapper Kodak Black, author of the hit vision tunnel, was arrested Friday while driving his car in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As CNN reports, the 25-year-old entertainer was driving when police told him to stop his vehicle, suspecting that the windows were tinted more than the law allows. They searched the car and found $75,000 in cash and a bag containing 31 pills of oxycodone, an opiate used for pain relief that has a high risk of addiction.
Term It says that the papers of the vehicle were expired. Kodak Black, whose real name is Bill Kahan Kapri, was booked into the Broward County Jail. Also according to US media, the nature of the charges has not yet been disclosed.
“You should never try a case on an arrest,” Kodak Black’s attorney, Bradford Cohen, said in the CNN columns. “There are facts and circumstances that give rise to a defense, especially in this case. We have negotiated a bond of $75,000 and will move forward to resolve this issue quickly.”
Lots of criminal records
CNN adds that the rapper was still in custody on Saturday morning. This is not the first time that Kodak Black has faced justice. The artist has been arrested several times, including one in April 2019 for “possession of drugs and weapons” when he was trying to return to the United States from Canada.
The same year, he was sentenced to 46 months in prison after pleading guilty to “falsifying documents” to buy weapons in Miami. But he had seen his sentence commuted: at the end of January 2021, a few hours before Joe Biden’s inauguration, Donald Trump had decided to grant presidential pardon to 73 people, including the rapper.
In April 2021, Kodak Black was sentenced to probation after assaulting a teenage girl in a hotel room in South Carolina. Last February, he was shot in the leg during a mass movement in suburban Los Angeles.
