“I think it will look like Comic-Con 2019,” David Glanzer, the festival’s communications manager, told AFP. With a difference: visitors will have to add a medical mask to their hobbit, princess or alien costume. “We’ve weathered the storm. And now that we’re back, maybe we’ll shed tears of joy…it’s very moving,” he added.

“Dungeons & Dragons” goes behind the screen

In addition to the nearly 135,000 unbridled fans expected for this edition, the festival dedicated to comics, science fiction and fantasy in all its forms also traditionally attracts many Hollywood celebrities who come to promote their works. Two series the honor

But here are two series that should cause a stir in San Diego: The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power from Amazon Prime and house of the dragonfruit of global success game of Thrones.

power rings is an ambitious project set in the universe created by JRR Tolkien, long before the events described by Peter Jackson in his trilogy of films released in the early 2000s.

The series, scheduled for five seasons and set to premiere on September 2, is reported to have cost more than $1 billion. It would be a personal obsession of Jeff Bezos, the billionaire founder of Amazon.

Much of this money has gone towards buying the rights to the Tolkien universe, but a sizable amount has also been set aside for promotional events and other immersive fan experiences, including Comic-Con. Amazon should go into effect on Friday with hobbits, goblins and dwarfs in the cyclopean Hall H of the San Diego Convention Center, where enthusiasts will queue for hours, if not days, to see the first exclusive details of this series.

Fantastic rivalry?

The next day, Comic-Con will see the dragons from the first spin-off series of game of Thrones, which premieres August 21 on HBO. The author of the books from which the original show is adapted, George RR Martin, has debunked any idea of a rivalry between the two fantasy series. “I want both series to reach a demanding audience and give them a great television moment,” he wrote on his blog.

“The more successful we are in fantastic universes, the more chances we have of having great fantastic works,” continues the author, who has not yet finished writing his novels dedicated to the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe as a television version of the The saga ended in 2019.

A worldwide success, the eight seasons of this series have won a total of 59 Emmy Awards, a record for the equivalent of American television’s Oscars, and paved the way for many similar series.

Three centuries before “Game of Thrones”…

Starring Matt Smith, Rhys Ifans and Emma D’Arcy, house of the dragon tells the story of sound and fury of the Targaryen family, some 300 years before the events described in game of Thrones. The actors will make an appearance in Hall H right after the presentation of the superhero movie black adamstraight out of DC comics, a role tailor-made for the towering Dwayne Johnson.

On the side of Disney and its subsidiary Marvel, the program is still confidential but many rumors circulate about the presentation of the second part of Black Panthereagerly awaited by the fans.

The Californian festival will say goodbye to the famous AMC series The Walking Deadwhose last episodes will be broadcast soon, but which will also mark the launch of a spin-off series, tales of the walking dead.
