The plot takes place a few years after the events at the end of the series, in the fictional town of Beacon Hills. As werewolf Scott McCall (Tyler Posey) sees “a terrifying new evil creature” emerge, he must enlist the support of close friends and allies like werewolves Derek Hale (Tyler Hoechlin) and Jackson Whittemore (Colton Haynes), the coyote Malia Tate (Shelley Hennig) and the banshee Lydia Martin (Holland Roden) hoping to beat her.

The first images of the film, written and produced by Jeff Davis, already at the helm of the series, show a continuity in the tone and photography of the two projects, with a somewhat darker touch for the feature film.
