British actor David Warner has died at the age of 80. consequence of cancerafter a long and exceptional career in film, theater and television, as reported Monday by his family.

For some directors he has become a cult actor, as in the case of the American Sam Peckinpahwho has relied on him for films such as the aforementioned Straw Dogs, The ballad of Cable Hogue (1970) and the iron cross (1976).

“He will be greatly missed by his family and friends and will be remembered as a warm, generous and compassionate man, partner and father whose legacy of overtime has touched so many for so many years,” the statement added.
