Canceled by Disney, animated adaptation of “Nimona” will be released on Netflix

Animation for “Nimona” was supposed to be released by Disney’s Blue Sky, but it was canceled after the studio closed.

“Nimona” is written by Noelle Stevenson

The animation of “Nimona”, which adapts the graphic novel of medieval fantasy Noelle Stevensonwill be released by Netflix in 2023. The project had been acquired by Blue Sky before Disney bought FOX, and ended up being canceled along with the closure of the studio.

“Nimona” is written by Stevenson, the same creator of “She-Ra and the Princesses of Power”. The titular character will be voiced by Chloe Grace Moretz (“If I stay”), Lord Ballister Blackheart will be voiced by Riz Ahmed (“The Sound of Silence”) and Eugene Lee Yang will give voice to Sir Ambrosius Ouropelvis.

“Nimona was always a brave little story that just wouldn’t stop. She’s a fighter… but she also has some really amazing people fighting for her. I am so excited to announce that THE NIMONA MOVIE IS LIVE…coming to you in 2023 from Annapurna and Netflix.”celebrated Noelle on social media.

The graphic novel tells the story of Nimonaa young shapeshifter who dreams of working with Lord Ballister Blackheart, the greatest villain that ever lived, but she had no idea her hero had any scruples. Ballister always made plans that never worked, but Nimona came with many suggestions to reverse this situation. Unfortunately, most involve explosions, blood, and deaths.

In this futuristic medieval era, Blackheart not only has to face his archenemy and former friend, the celebrated and heroic Sir Ambrosius Ouropelvisbut also to prevent the faithful henchman from destroying the entire kingdom by trying to help him. “A subversive and irreverent story that mixes magic, science, action and lots of humor over layers and layers of reflection – between one battle and another, of course”says the synopsis.
