The singer and founder of the group Arcade Fire, Win Butler, is accused of sexual misconduct by several victims. In a survey published on Saturday by specialized media Gallow, three women declared -on condition of anonymity- that the artist had behaved inappropriately with them. They “consider that the singer was moved given the age difference and the context in which the events occurred.”
According to them, these three people are fans of the Montreal team and are between 18 and 23 years old. The incidents are said to have occurred between 2016 and 2020.
In addition to these testimonies, a fourth person – described as non-binary – also testified in the magazine Gallowaccusing Win Butler of having “sexually assaulted her twice in 2015, when she was 21 and he was 34.”
To falsify its investigation, Pitchfork describes in particular having access to compromising messages exchanged between the victims and Win Butler.
“I have never touched a woman against her will”
In a lengthy statement sent to music media in response to these allegations, Win Butler admitted to having sex with each of the people named in the investigation. The artist, however, vehemently assured that these relations were agreed upon and that he was not the initiator.
“I have never touched a woman against her will, and any insinuation to that effect is simply false”, declares the artist before continuing: “Even if these relationships were all consensual, I am very sorry for those I have hurt. . For my behavior”.
And to add: “I regret not having been more aware and attentive to the effect I have on people, I screwed up and, although that is no excuse, I will continue to look forward and cure what can be cured.” and learn from past experiences.
In a second press release sent to Gallow Régine Chassagne, member of the group Arcade Fire and wife of Win Butler, supported the words of the musician:
“I know what is in his heart, and I know that he has never and will never touch a woman without her consent, and I am sure he never has.”
