drunk birds at Maria Chapdelaine, Directors Ivan Grbovic and Sébastien Pilote, respectively, will be favorites on June 5 at the next Gala Québec Cinéma, earning 16 nominations each at a ceremony that will crown the best in Québec cinema after one another difficult year for the industry.

The two films were notably mentioned in the categories of best film and best direction. Interpreters Sara Montpetit and Jorge Antonio Guerrero will also see their role in these films which will be rewarded with the price of the year’s revelation.

The snatch of time, a film by Francis Leclerc based on a story by Fred Pellerin, the next protagonist, with 13 mentions in categories such as Best Screenplay and Best Art Direction. Next BeansMohawk director Tracey Deer’s film about the Oka crisis, was nominated 11 times, primarily in the best film category.

Aline, the film by French director Valérie Lemercier that inspired the life of Céline Dion and became the subject of criticism expressed by the diva’s family, garnered eight nominations. Sylvain Marcel and Danielle Fichaud, who respectively play characters inspired by René Angélil and Thérèse Dion, were nominated in the male and female interpretation categories for a leading role.

Bootlegger, by Caroline Monnet, was also nominated in eight categories, including female interpreters for Pascale Bussières (lead role) and Joséphine Bacon (supporting role).

norbourg, by Maxime Giroux, at A revision, by Catherine Therrien, followed with six and five nominations respectively. The Perfect Family Guide, by Ricardo Trogi, Goodbye happiness, by Ken Scott Brain Freeze, by Julien Knafo, at The contemplation of the mystery, by Albéric Aurtenèche, is entitled to two mentions each.

For documentaries, Archipelago, by Felix Dufour-Laperriere, at like a wave, by Marie-Julie Dallaire, leading with four nominations each. Outside Serge outsidethe film about depression by Serge Thériault, the famous interpreter of Môman in The little lifegets three nominations.

The finalists for the Iris Audience Award, given to the Quebec film with the highest number of admissions in theaters in the province, were Aline, The snatch of time, goodbye happiness, The Perfect Family Guide, maria, Maria Chapdelaine, drunk birds, Sat., The perfect victim at A revision.

Each year, the Gala Québec Cinéma honors a personality who has marked the history of the film industry here. In 2022, it’s an opportunity to highlight the extraordinary career of Louise Portal, who is also celebrating her 50-year career this year.

Gala Québec Cinéma will be hosted by Geneviève Schmidt for the second time and will be broadcast live from Radio-Canada studio 42 on Sunday, June 5 at 8 pm, on ICI TÉLÉ.
