One day before the awarding of the prizes by the Official Jury of the Venice Film Festival, FIPRESCI (International Federation of Cinematographic Press) decided Argentina, 1985from Santiago Miterwith Ricardo Darinthe best film in the Official Competition.
And the World Catholic Communication Association has distinguished it with a Special Mention from its Signis Award.
In the recitals of the Special Mention for “Argentina, 1985”, the juries of the Catholic Association remarked that “Santiago Miter’s film has the value of narrating an Argentine historical event using the narrative rules of the classic thriller”.
It is “a work of great importance, the first film to tell the delicate process that sanctioned the democratic transition of the country, capable of also becoming a powerful message of preservation of memory and the value of democracy”, adds the justification of Laura to the film Miter.
Signis assigns one of the prizes that are awarded in parallel in different international festivals and with its own jury, different from the official jury of the festival which, in this case, assigns the Golden Lion to the best film and the Coppa Volpi to the best interpretation, including the others.
The Catholic Association awarded the film the Signis Award for this edition of the Festival Clearby Susanna Nicchiarell.
When it comes out in theaters
With a premiere scheduled for September 29 in the country, Argentina, 1985had its world premiere on Saturday 3rd September.
The film, in which Ricardo Darín plays the prosecutor Julio César Strassera, and Peter Lanzani plays Luis Moreno Ocampo, follows the trial of the military junta for human rights violations during the dictatorship imposed on the country in 1976..
