Ontario will extend the wearing of masks in hospitals, long-term care centers and public transportation after April 27, Minister Christine Elliott’s office confirmed to Radio-Canada.

The province is expected to reveal more details this afternoon, including the new deadline for eliminating this obligation.

The decision is expected.

Last week, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Kieran Moore, recommended extending the need to wear a mask to areas considered high risk. Prime Minister Doug Ford then said at a press briefing that he had none no problem to keep the mask in these areas.

In other public places in the province such as restaurants, shops and schools, face masks will no longer be needed starting March 21.

The province has surpassed the highest number of cases and is expected to increase hospitals within a week, Ontario’s chief medical health officer Dr. Kieran Moore on Wednesday.
