Fourth dose of COVID-19 for 50+ in Saskatchewan?

The Saskatchewan government may today announce the expansion of a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine to residents 50 years of age and older.

On Monday, provincial health minister Paul Merriman clarified that this dose should be given four months after receiving the booster dose.

He added that he did not want to expand eligibility for the fourth dose even more so as not to overburden pharmacists.

Currently, residents age 70 and older can receive a fourth dose, as well as residents age 50 and older in the northern part of the province, those living in a home or long -term care facility, and people who are immunocompromised. .

According to the province’s latest report, the risk of being hospitalized is five times greater for unvaccinated residents. In their case, the risk of dying from the disease was also seven times greater than in the case of a person who received three doses of the vaccine.
