Manitoba recorded 28 new pandemic -related deaths in the province’s latest weekly epidemiological report. A slight increase in hospitals was also noted.
Since the pandemic began in the province, 1,847 people have died after contracting the virus. Canada surpassed the 40,000 death mark of SARS-CoV-2.
There were 196 hospital admissions from May 1 to 7, compared to 185 last week, an increase of 6%.
Thirteen other patients were admitted to intensive care units, including a patient less than 10 years of age.
A total of 11 new outbreaks, all in health care facilities, are also listed in the weekly epidemiological report.
Laboratory tests confirmed 902 new cases of COVID-19, down from 1,042 cases last week.
This is an underestimation of the true number of cases due to limited access to polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing.
The province does not monitor positive rapid antigen tests.
Manitoba’s positivity rate for the test PCR
was 17.6%, down from 20.7% last week.The labs performed a daily average of 832 tests.
