Coronavirus: viral load decreased in Saskatoon and North Battleford

Analysis of wastewater from Saskatoon and North Battleford shows a decrease in the presence of the virus responsible for COVID-19.

Viral load dropped 26% in Saskatoon and 53.6% in North Battleford.

This is the fifth lowest load recorded by University of Saskatchewan researchers since the Omicron wave began.

However, Prince Albert saw its viral load increase by 49.9% compared to last week. The municipality’s viral load remains low compared to that recorded on May 20.

When the viral load is small, a slight increase in the number of cases can create a significant increase in percentageexplain the researchers.

This increase could be reflected in new cases in the coming weeks.

All data collected by the wastewater analysis researchers is returned to the Saskatchewan Health Authority.
