The Ministry of the Environment has announced that it wants to add an emission measurement station near the Horne smelter, in Rouyn-Noranda.
This is a one-year follow-up project that aims to measure the concentration of metals near industrial sources that are likely to emit nickel.
Other stations will be placed in the province, namely at Saguenay at Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, at Saint-Joseph-de-Sorel at Montérégie, at Contrecoeur at Montérégie as well, at Black Lake at Chaudières-Appalaches and at Plessisville in Center-du-Quebec.
The station will be used to measure total suspended particles (TSP), respirable particles (PM10) and 29 metals.
The Ministry of the Environment said they did not intend to install other sampling stations, as demanded by some organizations, including public health, the Rouyn-Noranda Committee for the Stopping of Toxic Waste and Emissions and the MP from of Rouyn-Noranda-Témiscamingue, Émilise Lessard-Therrien.
