On July 13, the new Minister of Health, François Braun, announced on RTL the return of the free heat wave number, entitled “Heat Wave Information Service”. “Thus, if our fellow citizens have doubts, doubts about what to do, concerns: 0800 06 66 66. We are going to be able to give them all the necessary information about this heat wave peak and what to do,” said the minister.
A week later, and although many heat records have been broken in the last few hours, especially in Brest, this number has received 1,600 calls, according to what the General Directorate of Health has told BFMTV.
Seniors, pregnant women and facility directors
The number had already been activated in mid-June, in the face of the first heat wave that France had to face.
Reachable from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., this number aims to remind you of the good gestures you must adopt, already hammered by the public authorities: hydrate yourself, avoid practicing sports, listen to your most fragile loved ones…
Found by BFMTV last week, Géraldine Awakossa, trainer at the heat wave call center, recalled the missions of the interlocutors. “These are the usual recommendations that we recommend,” she said. Among the most demanding public: elderly people, pregnant women but also establishment staff who need recommendations.
“Relatives of isolated people who are also worried: some elderly are still at home, and the family is worried. We are here to be alert, with them, but also to fight against loneliness”, added Géraldine Awakossa.
