Violent winds that have been blowing in the Quebec region since Tuesday morning have caused power outages and numerous calls to the Fire Department for structures flying away.
Before noon, the Quebec City Fire Protection Service received at least 25 calls, including one on Seigneuriale Street, in Beauport borough.
Part of the roof of a commercial building is threatening to fly. The roof in question is being repaired, but there are no roof workers.
Also in Beauport, the fence surrounding another construction site, rue Blanche-Lamontagne this time, also gave off wind power.
Car shelter
There are also many calls for fabrics or structures for car shelters that are flown on the street, in trees or on power lines.
Problems of this order were observed in particular in the sectors of Val-Bélair, Charlesbourg, Orsainville, Limoilou, L’Ancienne-Lorette, Loretteville, Vanier and Cap-Rouge.
Trees were also cut in the wind and sometimes fell on power lines.
Power failures
At 11:45 am, nearly 4,000 Hydro-Québec customers were without electricity in the Capitale-Nationale region, particularly in the Beauport, Charlesbourg and Shannon sectors.
At the same time, in the Chaudière-Appalaches region, power outages affected 1,289 homes, mainly in the Etchemins sector.
Environment Canada forecasts northeast winds of 30 km/h for Tuesday with gusts of up to 80 km/h in the morning.
