The Aboriginal Anglican Archbishop has resigned over sex allegations

The Anglican Church of Canada has announced the resignation of Mark MacDonald, Anglican National Indigenous Archbishop of Canada, over allegations of sexual misconduct.

In its statement, the Anglican Church said the resignation is effective from now on, but it did not specify what steps it intends to take to address the allegations.

However, it reiterated its promise to deal fast, serious and systematic all complaints of sexual misconduct.

He also pointed out that his general synod is currently changing the sexual harassment policy so that it is efficient and appropriate.

In a pastoral letter posted on the Anglican Church of Canada website, Archbishop and Primate Linda Nicholls called the news devastating. The feeling of betrayal runs deep when leaders fail to meet the expected standards and boundaries we set.he continued.

Above all, we should pray for the complainant, whose life was affected by Mark’s actions. Losing trust in someone who holds such a leadership position will take time to heal, and that will require our constant prayers.she continues, noting that the members of the family of Mark MacDonald will also be very affected.

He said he shares the grief of the Sacred Circle and the Anglican Council of Indigenous Peoples.

Archbishop Nicholls announced that Bishop Sidney Black will serve as the interim National Indigenous Bishop and in this capacity will oversee Indigenous ministries.

Mark MacDonald was appointed National Archbishop in 2007 to serve Native Anglicans. He was the first to hold this post.
