The man accused of killing Renée Sweeney at a business on Paris Street in Sudbury in 1998 will be eligible for a trial in early 2023.
Robert Steven Wright, now 42, had therefore already spent more than four years behind bars at the time of his trial.
He was arrested in December 2018 by Greater Sudbury Police and charged with the murder of Renée Sweeney when she was 18.
The judge and lawyers determined Tuesday that the trial will begin on Feb. 21, 2023, a few weeks after the 25th anniversary of the victim’s death.
The trial, which is due to begin in May 2021, has been postponed several times.
It was moved to October 2021, then a few weeks before it started, it was returned again in September 2022.
The COVID-19 pandemic slowed in this case, but it was also delayed due to a change of defense attorney and a request for a change of test location.
