A man at the top of a new list of the country’s most wanted fugitives was arrested just hours after the list was made public.
Abilaziz Mohamed, wanted in first degree murder, was arrested Tuesday night.
Toronto police have identified him as a suspect in the murder of Craig McDonald.
On the night of October 13, 2021, Craig McDonald allegedly argued with the suspect while watching a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game at a Boston Pizza restaurant in Scarborough.
The suspect would have been waiting for him in the parking lot of the restaurant, where bullets would have killed him.
On Tuesday morning, Toronto police, in partnership with the National Bolo Program, identified Abilaziz Mohamed as the first of Canada’s 25 most wanted fugitives.
The wanted poster promised a $ 250,000 reward for any information leading to his arrest.
On Tuesday night, anonymous information allowed police to arrest Mohamed.
” Yesterday, Abilaziz Mohamed was the most wanted suspect in the country; he is now incarcerated in Toronto police custody. “
Mohamed faces a first degree murder charge. He appeared in court via videoconference on Wednesday morning.
Bolo program director Max Langlois believes the swift arrest sends a clear message to other wanted fugitives: The whole country is looking for you. Call a lawyer. Call the police. Make the necessary arrangements to get there.
In a statement, Craig McDonald’s sister, Derma McDonald, said she was comforted to hear the news of the arrest.
This arrest won’t bring Craig back, it doesn’t end our grief. The only blessing it brings is to allow us to take the next step forward on this saddest journey.he says.
