The fire that completely destroyed the Chez Camille Take Out restaurant in Cap-Pelé on April 24 is suspicious, the New Brunswick RCMP confirms.
Police said the cause of the fire has not yet been determined and the investigation is ongoing.
At around 3:30 a.m. last Sunday, police responded to a call about the fire at this well-known seafood restaurant in the southeast of the province. No one was in the building when the incident happened.
In the last three years, residents of the Cap-Pelé region have seen about fifteen buildings smoky. Elected municipal and provincial officials are impatient.
Links between fire?
Thursday, the RCMP said it was trying to see if some fires were related.
The RCMP is also continuing its investigation into other suspicious fires that have occurred this year in several municipalities in the Southeast. The investigation aims, among other things, to determine if the incidents are connected.
Corporal Hans Ouellette of the RCMP added that he understands that residents of the Cap-Pelé region are concerned about the outcome of the building fires that have occurred in recent years.
He clarified that each investigation takes time and that, since 2019, some arrests have been made in connection with these fires, while others are still part of the active investigation..
Police are asking anyone with information about the fire at Chez Camille Take Out, or who witnessed suspicious activity in the area early Sunday, to contact Shediac RCMP, or Échec on crime.
