The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has referred a fatal collision involving one of its officers to the province’s police watchdog.
The RCMP said a 22-year-old man from Antigonish, Nova Scotia was struck and killed by an RCMP vehicle along the Trans-Canada Highway in Addington Forksin Nova Scotia, around 10:35 pm Wednesday.
Police said they were responding to a report of a man walking on the freeway and possibly in traffic when the accident occurred.
The man died at the scene.
Meanwhile, police said a man reported to the Pictou, NS RCMP Detachment to report that he collided with an unknown object along the same highway area, Wednesday night.
The RCMP says its investigators, the Serious Incident Response Team as well as investigators from the oversight agency are trying to determine if the two incidents are related.
