A Vancouverite is facing deportation from Bali, Indonesia, following allegations that he danced nude at a cultural site in violation of the country’s laws.
He was accused, according to Indonesian authorities, of committing an immoral video on mount batura volcano considered sacred.
In a video posted on her Instagram account, but since then deleted, she was seen performing a haka dance, a ceremonial dance of New Zealand Maoris, completely naked on Mount Batur, an active volcano in Bali.
Indonesian authorities said they were shocked they saw a lack of respect for the country’s culture and sacred places.
All foreign nationals visiting Bali, please behave properly and respect the laws and cultural values of the Balinese, reads a statement from the Indonesian authorities. We will destroy any violation to respect the honor of the country.
The Canadian’s passport was obtained and he must go to the immigration office on Monday, the government said.
I’m guilty
The 33-year-old Vancouverite explained that he did not intentionally hurt anyone and he regrets his actions.
In another video posted on Instagram, he tearfully explained that he did not intentionally hurt the Maori or Balinese.
My intention was just to feel alive, because for a long time I felt intense depression.
He said he did not know what to do now because he was facing immigration authorities without support.
