Carl Girouard’s lawyer on Tuesday attacked the credibility of neuropsychologist Dr William Pothier who concluded the young man wanted to feed his narcissism by attacking passers-by on Halloween night 2020.
Dr. William Pothier came to this conclusion after the accused passed psychometric tests.
But Me Pierre Gagnon, defending Girouard, questioned the neuropsychologist’s procedure.
As the lawyer pursued the expert witness, the prosecution raised objections.
The judge only saw that the wavelengths of the two men were not the same.
I have the impression that one speaks Cantonese and the other is Mandarin. They do not understand each otherdescribed judge Richard Grenier.
Mr. Gagnon asked Dr. Pothier why he didn’t try to pick up the reports of workers who noticed the defendant’s delusional comments, when he was 18 years old.
The neuropsychologist replied that it was probably by out of time and that the documents may not need in his expertise.
Psychosis or delirium
Before being cross-examined, the neuropsychologist explained why he did not come to the same conclusions as the expert’s defense presented.
Psychiatrist Gilles Chamberland explained that the accused had suffered from psychosis and had delusions.
Instead, Dr. considers. Pothier that the accused victimized himself and to feed his narcissism so he acted. So he rejects the idea that he is in the grip of a delirium, as Dr. suggests. Chamberland.
Carl Girouard told him that a few days before acting, he wasn’t sure if it would succeed his mission.
No doubt someone is delusional, he is in his maniaraised neuropsychologist Pothier.
Moreover, the accused said he began to understand that his mission was futile, once he killed the second victim.
According to the neuropsychologist, a delusional idea cannot be destroyed in this way.
Answers to tattoos
The neuropsychologist’s report removed the veil on the tattoos covered by the killer on his back.
He would have made them at the age of 16.
It is also at this age that Mr. Girouard had a snake tattoo on his back, when he wanted to “start his game world”written by Dr. Pothier in his report.
According to Girouard told him, he also has a round tattoo with a cross. to create a symbol that represents courage and freedom.
The neuropsychologist’s cross-examination will continue on Wednesday.
Carl Girouard faces two counts of 1st degree murder, and five counts of attempted murder. He admitted that he was the author of the attack, but presents a defense of non-criminal liability, due to his mental illnesses.
