As reported by genbeta.com, The league will have to pay a fine of 250,000 euros after the National High Court ruled that it had incurred irregularities in the use of its official app.
The fine was imposed in 2019, after the Spanish Agency for Data Protection (AEPD) carried out an ex officio investigation after it came to light that the LaLiga app had used its microphone and the location of mobile phones to “detect fraud in unauthorized public establishments” that would retransmit without having paid the corresponding license to do so.
The AEPD indicates that LaLiga “should have reported its activity more explicitly” and LaLiga, for its part, argued that its “action has been in accordance with the law and responsible at all times”.
Now, Justice has dismissed LaLiga’s appeal and has ratified the amount of the fine that the body must pay, explaining that it is a figure proportional to income.
