Rochelle Larivière, a grade 12 student at Sacré-Coeur Catholic High School in Greater Sudbury, organized the sale of pierogies in support of war victims in Ukraine.
The activity has raised more than $ 1,300 to be donated to the Red Cross, which is currently leading humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. Rochelle Larivière had the help of the school cafeteria manager, Suzanne Carr, who prepared traditional Ukrainian dishes in large quantities.
The student explained that she took dance lessons at the Greater Sudbury Ukrainian Church. He said his relationship with the Ukrainian community in his city inspired his initiative.
” Every day I pass by church on the bus, and every time I pass by, I just think of the pain these people feel. I want to help reduce this pain. “
The organizer hopes his initiative will inspire other schools in the region. Suzanne Carr added that the sale of pierogies will continue throughout the school year.
