The former Champlain School teacher has been charged with sexual assault

Paul J. Maillet of Notre-Dame was charged with sexual assault in connection with incidents that occurred in 1987 and 1988.

In a statement, the Codiac Regional Department of RCMP it said the 75-year-old man was arrested in January.

Paul J. Maillet was a teacher at Champlain Elementary School in Moncton at the time of the alleged events, but police have not specified whether the events took place at the school or not.

The charges were filed on April 4. Paul J. Maillet was charged with solicitation of sexual touching, sexual assault and gross indecency. Any information that identifies the alleged victim is subject to a publication ban.

He was released under certain conditions, until his next appearance, the date of which has not yet been determined.

Police are now trying to find out if the man has another victim.
