This is a severe loss for the community, which is missing out on one of its famous snacks. Larry’s and its rival across the street on Main Street, Riv, have been popular over the summer with residents and tourists since 1964.

It breaks my heart. I’ve been eating there before. My children and grandchildren have eaten here. It was strange to see it on fire , said Trevor McLeod, a former resident. He and his family have visited Sturgeon Falls at least twice a year since he left his hometown.

This fire affects children as well as adults. Many people have fond memories of Larry.

Some people lost their jobs because of the fire and many were disappointed. This is a nice little restaurant underlined a resident, Margo Gadoury.

Even tourists are familiar with Sturgeon Falls and its famous snacks, as Fire Chief Richard Maranda said.

Richard Maranda in the interview

It is an icon of the municipality. You talk about Sturgeon Falls to anyone outside and they will say ” ah yes the famous snack ”he says.

A warehouse fire

The fire that destroyed the snack bar broke out in the back of the building, where most of the provisions purchased for the start of the season are located. Fortunately, the structure is still one piece.

Everything is on paper and cardboard. There are many things that are flammable. Once the fire starts, it won’t take long to increase, explained Mr. Maranda.

The facade of a building was damaged

It’s been a few hours since the fire broke out since firefighters arrived, past 9 p.m., lots of fire inside.

An investigation is already underway to determine the source of the fire. The cooking utensils have been discarded.

According to Mr. Maranda, to Larry will reopen as soon as possible, but the extent and amount of damage needs to be assessed first. This is still good news, especially for Trevor McLeod.

You can’t resist the delicious snack, he says.
