Quebec should aim to accept 100,000 immigrants each year, forming the Conseil du patronat (CPQ) in a white immigration paper made public on Monday.
This is nearly twice the current annual threshold set by the Legault government, based on Quebec’s integration capacity.
The government has never shown from where it comes its conclusion that our immigration capacity will be limited to 50,000 immigrants per year or on what criteria it bases itself on to establish this threshold.can we read in the document.
Also, the CPQ considers that the knowledge of French required by the government is too high and not necessary for most positions.
In addition, the organization continues to criticize the division of immigration powers between Quebec and Ottawa because of the delays it causes in processing applications.
The CPQ also criticized the Legault government for its suspension of the immigrant investor program (PII) and for its restrictions on the standards of one of its popular immigration programs, the Quebec Experience Program (PEQ).
For a little over a week, the Conseil du patronat, along with other employer organizations, instead recommended a threshold of 80,000 newcomers per year, to alleviate the labor shortage.
The CPQ now believes that Quebec should reach at least 80,000 immigrants, and ideal goal for 100,000 peoplecan we read on the white paper.
According to recent data, there are at least 240,000 positions to be filled throughout Quebec.
” Employers believe that the immigration system, in its current form, does not meet the needs of the labor market. “
Despite all the current efforts the government has put in to fill the jobs, nearly a quarter of current vacancies cannot be filled, representing 300,000 jobs over the next five years, the CPQ is calculated.
Immigration is both inevitable and absolutely necessaryorganizational reasoning of employers.
The CPQ specifically refers to several studies that estimate that companies have lost potential revenue of approximately $ 18 billion over the past two years, because they had to reject contracts, and so on.
It will be recalled that the Legault government expects to receive 70,000 immigrants by 2022, or 20,000 higher than its threshold, and this is to fill the backlog accumulated in admissions during the pandemic due to the closure of the borders.
