The 31 -year -old repeat offender started a fire in a vehicle parked on 16th Street, in addition to a City of Gold poster. He pleaded guilty to two arson charges in February, in addition to two probation violations and one theft.

The actions were made nearly five months after Mathieu Landry was released from prison for a series of 12 arson attacks made in 2019, still in Val-d’Or.

For these new offenses, the prosecution claims two years in prison in a federal prison, to be added to the 304 days already spent behind bars since he was arrested.

Me Andrée-Anne Gagnon pleaded with Judge Claude P. Bigué that the detention of Mathieu Landry was necessary to ensure the population of Val-d’Or, because of the risk of recidivism and their need for strict supervision, in the long weather

The defense, in part, proposes a sentence limited to the time served, in addition to nine months of suspended detention, at his home.

Me Marie-Ève Gervais believes that the sentence requested by the prosecution is disproportionate to the seriousness of the offenses committed. He also affirms that his client was willing to take action to address his addiction problem upon his release from prison.

Judge Bigué took the case under counsel.
