Independent investigation after the man was injured by the RCMP

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of British Columbia has launched an investigation after Royal Canadian Mounted Police shot and wounded a man near Barriere in the heart of the province.

According to RCMP, the incident occurred just before 10 pm Friday along Highway 5.

Police said they were called because of a man dropped on the road and who took the seeming weapon . Once on the scene, the RCMP said a interaction occurred and he used a gun.

The injured man was taken to the hospital, said RCMP.

This is the 70th time this year that the Office of Independent Investigations has been called to look into police conduct.
