About 40 potash wagons were derailed near Fort Macleod

About 43 Canadian Pacific (CP) train cars carrying potash were derailed northeast of Fort MacLeod, Alta., On Sunday morning, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

Police received a call mentioning a derailment between the 251st and 252nd Ranges, near Highway 3, around 8:15 am, Sunday morning. Firefighters and CP employees also attended the scene.

The incident caused no damage and posed no risk to public safety, while the investigation into the causes of the derailment has already begun, according to police.

Work has also begun to recover the derailed vehicles, according to a rail carrier spokesperson.

The RCMP specified that vehicles were forced to drive on the shoulder of Highway 3 and asked motorists to avoid the area.
