From southern Ontario to Quebec, hundreds of thousands of people have been affected by the deadly violence of a hurricane called derecho meteorologists.
In an interview with ICI.RDI on Saturday, meteorologist Simon Legault said he was surprised at the extent of this relatively rare weather phenomenon in eastern Canada.
From the southwestern tip of Ontario to the Quebec region, it’s really very long. So it is a cluster of storms, called derecho, that move very fast and cause confusion in the strong gusts of wind that accompany these storms. There is not much rain, because it passes quicklyhe explained.
Environment Canada will investigate reports of tornadoes to determine if they are tornadoes or strong gusts similar to a derecho.
All we see is in line with the derecho that would have happened yesterday and traveled several hundred kilometersexplanation of the meteorologist.
” Storms like what happened yesterday, it’s really weird that we have that in our latitudes. They are more often seen on the American side. “
The Environment Canada website states that in July 2012, in Eastern Ontario, a violent storm passed through Renfrew and Lanark counties with straight-line winds blowing up to 170 km/h. Tens of thousands of trees fell and about 25,000 homes lost power.
