Mathieu Maheu-Dumont, this man who allegedly killed Alexandre Giroux at the Tafisa factory in Lac-Mégantic in March, is now facing first degree murder charges.
The man was originally charged with second-degree murder, but a new count was filed Thursday at the Lac-Mégantic courthouse.
Mathieu Maheu-Dumont, 33, was declared fit to face trial in April.
He was no longer working with Transport Robert during the events. He received a disciplinary punishment from his immediate superior, Alexandre Giroux, three days before the murder committed on the factory premises.
The Bureau of Independent Investigations (BEI) also announced the launch of an investigation into the intervention of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) in this file.
According to information published on the BEI website, an employee of an insurance company was reported to have contacted SQ. He would have talked to a police officer to report to him that one of his clients had made disturbing words, especially threatening to physically attack someone..
