The man died minutes before the train derailed at Edgeley

A 57-year-old man died in a collision with a train shortly before derailing on Thursday afternoon in Edgeley, Saskatchewan.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Fort Qu’Appelle Detachment confirmed that the man from the Rural Municipality of Lajord, southeast of Regina, was driving a road maintenance vehicle at the time of the impact.

His death was pronounced on the spot, said RCMP.

Around 1:30 pm Thursday, police reported a train derailment two miles west of Edgeley, which is about fifty miles east of Regina.

No further details were provided by law enforcement regarding the number of vehicles derailed.

The RCMP clarified Thursday night that the National Canada its investigation continues.
